The “Where Honor is Due” mural and documentary is a visual opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroics and dedication of a few shining examples of BIPOC military members and their units’ excellence.
Where Honor is Due is a commemorative mural that will adorn the Armory & Recreation Center located in the beautiful Village of Woodlawn (a small municipality outside of the City of Cincinnati) and celebrate the lesser-told stories of BIPOC military personnel who have served proudly but are often unrecognized. Through one large-scale, permanent mural and a community engagement event, BIPOC military will be recognized, honored, and celebrated for their valor and dedication. The accompanying documentary truly captures the heroics, stories, and memories of service for BIPOC military members in our region and serves as a fitting complement to the mural.
The mural will be approximately 9 ft. tall and 43 ft. wide, and the wall shape where the mural will be affixed resembles that of a plane wing, which served as design inspiration for the backdrop and foundation for the design. Utilizing an artistic technique that maps geometric imagery with well-defined boundaries over a more representational style and softly blended portraiture gives the effect of a picture within a picture. The mural will highlight logos and decals traditionally printed on military vehicles and weaponry, overlaying portraits of the military heroes depicted, coupled with intentional color usage, layering deep tones along with a palette of military greens, grays, and browns with pops of red, white, blue, and other bright colors.
